A start to sessions
Ok, since this is the reason that we made this blog, I guess I'll be the first one to post a session here. Remember that you cannot link word documents, so these will be really long posts. Here's a rough version of the planning and time management session that I used last year:
Phase 2 Planning +Time Management Session
Goal: to teach group how to plan something and how to manage their time while making it fun at the same time
Guided Discovery: have the group plan how to cook any dinner that is not too complicated
Teach/learn: Ask candidates questions and give them more information on how they planned their meal based on the following information
How to Plan:
q Consider the task (goals, objectives…)
q Consider your resources
q Consider alternatives
q Write it down
o Prioritize list
o Make a schedule
q Communicate plan to group by copying it down and posting it
q Execute plan
q Evaluate
How to manage time:
q Consider your plan
q Make sure that group knows what to do at all times
q MOTIVATE GROUP (this is a key part of managing time. The group will not work as time-effectively if they do not have motivation)
q If one particular person or group of people is not doing anything, have them move on to the next task (if possible) or help with the current one
q Once one task is done, have whole group go on to the next task
q Evaluate
Short-Term Application: have candidates make a plan as to how to get a piece of paper to another point and then collect 3 objects (put out 3 objects) while blindfolded (only second part) and time them. Have them do this twice and then evaluate how well they did each time.
Evaluation:
Comments: Needs a better short-term application and GD. There is more material that could be added to the notes section. Others?
